Eleven members of the Twin City Harmonizers were among the 113 senior barbershop singers who gathered in Scarborough for the 15th annual Songfest – six hours of singing and socializing – on Wednesday, June 3. The event included performances by seven quartets and five very large quartets or choruses from Scarborough (the hosts), Kitchener-Waterloo, Oakville, Hamilton, Brampton, Burlington, Mississauga, East York, Peel, Halton, Markham, Strathroy, Barrie and Toronto. With lots of time for meeting and greeting old and new friends, gang singing, tags and learning a new song, the afternoon concluded with an excellent chicken dinner. Twin City’s Al Davis opened the program directing everyone in singing The Old Songs and O Canada just as he did when he organized the first event 15 years ago. One More Time, our octet (plus one) entertained for their 15th appearance also. Rounding out Twin City’s contingent was Richard Heuss, our newest tenor, who also sings with the Tri-City Gospel Quartet. Awards were presented to the performer with the longest continuous membership in the Barbershop Harmony Society (67 years) and to the oldest performer (96 years!!!).
