Tonight at rehearsal Bob Mitchell was given a plaque for his years of service with the Twin City Harmonizers. Yes ! 62 years with us.
Here is the letter given to Bob by Rich Hubick our President
It is with great pleasure and admiration that I write this letter to you upon your retirement from The Twin City Harmonizers. Being a member of any organization for 62 years is truly a remarkable achievement but adding to it the many contributions you have made cannot go without special acknowledgement.
When I spoke to chapter members, the common response was that "Whenever you needed something important done, you would ask Bob Mitchell because you knew it would get done and get done well".
I did some research and found that you were Chapter President on 3 separate occasions as well as served on the Board in many capacities. You were Barbershopper of the Year also on 3 separate occasions in 1963, 1984 and again in 1999. This is the most by anyone in the Chapter's history . Finally you were inducted into the Twin City Harmonizers Hall of Fame in 2006.
Your contributions were not only in an administrative capacity. We are a singing organization and on the singing front you were a founding member of the Octet "Second Career" and a strong member of the Bass section.
Not only have you contributed your time and skills to our chapter but you've also been active within the Ontario District. You chaired District Conventions and supported the Ontario Barbershoppers on many fronts earning you the distinction of being an Ontario District Barbershopper of Renown in 1989.
We could always count on you, Bob, to get tasks done promptly. You are decisive, you make your opinion known and your fellow Barbershoppers always knew where you stood on an issue.
From my own personal recollection of you, I can remember one of my very first rehearsals, you were one of the first to greet me during coffee time and make me feel welcWe also shared a once in a lifetime experience of going on the 2009 Hockey Day in Canada weekend in Winkler Manitoba where you and I and two other members were flown to Winnipeg, driven by limo to the town of Winkler, attended a banquet at the number 2 table and were treated like VIPs. We were entertained by Don Cherry and Don MacLean, Wendell Clark, Howie Meeker and other famous hockey royalty. The next day we got delayed by a blizzard but managed to make it back to Winnipeg to catch our private 6 seater jet that flew us to Ottawa where we took in a Senators game vs The Montreal Canadian. The next day we wound down by enjoying the fabulous ice sculptures at Ottawa's Winterlude festival then were flown back home.... an experience with you that I will always cherish.
We will miss your "Just Do It" attitude and we wish you the best in your retirement from the chapter.
Rich Hubick
President
